Also not to be rude, but is this your first car or Mazda? Even with an extended warranty, I still have to pay to update the Nav system.Ĭame here to say this. Believe me I know, my Jeep wrangler was this much and I refuse to pay the cost for the update.
It wasn't too long ago that these dedicated Nav systems were $1k options and EVERY update was $150. That is where the cost comes from, you can't just look at the material cost of the SD card itself. I get what you are saying it only costs a few bucks to make an SD card, but the information on that card takes time and money to create and continue to update. Get off track once you are without cell coverage and you are SOL. This works as long as you think about it. Yes I know that if you plan ahead with Google Maps you can download your trip ahead of time. If you don't ever travel in these rural areas then stick with your cellphone, otherwise the navigation system is worth it. I am going to say though that if you are someone that travels out in the boonies where cell coverage is spotty at best, having a dedicated navigation system with offline data is worth the cost. I use Google Maps or Waze the majority of the time and it would be great to get that info on the HUD.
So I completely agree that Android/Apple should be able to utilize the HUD as that would vastly improve the usability.
